ECM assists with the successful refloating of a Military Sealift Command vessel

At the request of ECM client who oversees the management of the vessel, ECM was called upon to provide onsite pollution prevention and environmental expertise during the refloating operation.

The vessel ran aground on a coral reef January 22, 2015 off the coast of Okinawa, Japan.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Penalty Policy for emission control area (ECA) violations

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has released a penalty policy for violations of the NORTH AMERICAN AND CARIBBEAN EMISSIONS CONTROL AREA (ECA) regulations.

The policy applies to violations of MARPOL Annex VI emission standards from ships and is effective from January 15th, 2015 for all vessels that have no pending settlement or penalty negotiations with the U.S. government.

In cases where action is pending, the policy may be applied retroactively at the discretion of the case team.

The Marine Environment Protection Committee, at its sixty-second session,(11 to 15 July 2011), approved the Revised Guidance for recording of operations in the Oil Record Book Part I – Machinery space operations (all ships) (MEPC 62/24, paragraph 7.23), set out in the annex.
