Ogni anno, la Coast Guard analizza migliaia di incidenti che hanno causato conseguenti inquinamenti nelle acque degli Stati Uniti. I rapporti di investigazione dimostrano che, ogni anno, più del 70% del volume degli inquinamenti è attribuibile a meno di 20 incidenti. Altre sentenze negli Stati Uniti inflitte ad operatori che hanno violato la Marpol

Other sentences were issued in the last four months in US due to Marpol Violations.

A Chief Engineer  was sentenced to six months in prison, followed by two years of supervised release, for obstructing a Coast Guard inspection that took place in May 2010 aboard a Liberian-operated cargo ship at the Port of Baltimore. In a related case, the ship-owner and operator of the vessel previously pleaded guilty to obstructing a Coast Guard examination and violating the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships. The company was sentenced in February 2011 to pay a $2.4 million fine, and to serve three years probation, subject to an environmental compliance plan that includes audits by an independent third party auditor.

(English) U.S. Coast Guard and the Environmental Protection Agency Announce VGP Monitoring Agreement

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) has been working with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to develop a framework from where the USCG could monitor the Vessel General Permit (VGP) requirements for the EPA. On Friday, 11 February, 2011, both organizations announced a completed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two government agencies for the USCG to begin monitoring activities. Continua »
